Radial JCR Reamp Studio Reamper
Item No. : 203896
The specialist's opinion
The Radial JCR Reamp is a passive studio reamp designed by Radial Engineering, a leading Canadian manufacturer of audio routing and conversion equipment.
It's the current version of the original Reamp invented and patented by sound engineering legend John Cuniberti, best known for his work with Joe Satriani.
The JCR faithfully reproduces the circuitry and custom transformer hand-wound in the USA from the original 1993 design, offering authentic audio quality and sound coloration.
Reamping: a must-have creative studio technique
Reamping involves taking a live pre-recorded audio track (guitar, bass, keyboard, drum machine) and sending it back through an amplifier, pedal chain or effects processor, to be recaptured at the microphone. This technique dissociates instrumental performance from sound research: the musician first records the best possible take live, then the sound engineer can experiment at leisure with different amplifiers, settings and microphone placements, without time constraints or musician fatigue. The JCR performs the essential conversion of the balanced line-level signal from the audio interface into an unbalanced, high-impedance instrument-level signal, compatible with guitar and bass amplifiers.
"Made in USA" passive transformer and exceptional audio quality
The JCR's 100% passive circuitry is based on John Cuniberti's custom transformer, wound in the USA, which ensures perfect galvanic isolation between the audio interface output and the amplifier input, eliminating any ground loops, hum or interference. Frequency response extends from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a total harmonic distortion of just 0.001% at 1 kHz, a dynamic range of 140 dB and a noise floor of -115 dBu. The passive design requires no external power supply.
Full connectivity and convenient controls
The JCR features separate XLR and TRS 6.35 mm jack inputs to suit all audio interface configurations. An adjustable output level potentiometer allows precise metering of the signal sent to the Amplifier. A three-position filter selector offers a treble cut to warm up overly bright amps, a bass cut to clean up muddy bass, or a bypass to the original circuit. A 180° polarity inverter, ground lift and mute button complete the functions. 14 gauge steel chassis with baked enamel finish. Dimensions: 84 x 127 x 48 mm.
