The specialist's opinion
The Meinl Sonic Energy Octave Steel Tongue Drum is a high-end tongue drum made from coated stainless steel.
With a diameter of 40 cm and a height of 16.2 cm, it features a central bass note (D3), surrounded by eight other notes spread over two octaves.
Each tongue (or slat) produces a note in a double octave, generating a rich, meditative and enveloping sound, akin to a handpan.
The tuning is based on the D Amara scale, with the following notes: D3, A3, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, C5 (standard A4 tuning = 440 Hz). The whole set is precisely pre-tuned for intuitive, harmonious use.
The bottom of the instrument features a sound hole that can be closed with a removable silicone plug for a more compact sound. Three non-slip silicone feet ensure stability on any surface.
Playing can be done with the fingers or with the two Zwarte Kabbes (tatabu) wooden mallets supplied, fitted with rubber heads. The decorative nylon cord and laser-engraved floral motif add an elegant aesthetic touch. Slight discoloration due to laser engraving may appear depending on the material, with no impact on the quality, functionality or tonal character of the instrument.
The instrument is supplied with a sturdy nylon carrying case (zippered handle) and a linen bag for optimum protection.
