Charles Dancla is considered to be the last great representative of the classical school of the French violin.

He was at the same time composer, solo violin of the Paris Opera and professor at the Conservatory of the French capital.

He wrote many works of teaching for the violin, in particular the "Small school of the melody" in three volumes. He was able, in his own way, to realize the principle "no music without technique, no technique without music" in his works of teaching. This is the case with these very easy melodic studies op. 84. These studies are suitable for beginners after their second year, but also for adults who wish to resume playing or change instruments. Many of them can be used for small gigs. Each of them targets a problem relating to the technique such as for example the change of string or even spiccato, hammered, chromaticism, change of position, octaves and double strings; or it presents the musical material of the study in a condensed and entertaining form.
