The re-stamping of a Noblet Artist Bb clarinet

Posted on: Thursday 01 July 2021

Clarinet friends, I wanted to explain to you how to bring an old clarinet back to life.
I have a 1968 Noblet Artist clarinet with all the pads to change and in addition with two slots on the bottom body.

Well, the most interesting, it is still the two cracks: to manage to repair a crack and in addition that it is not seen any more or very little, it’s fantastic!

To repair a crack, I use cyanolite glue and ebony powder . The goal is to fill the gap with powder and machine the surplus. I use fine files at the beginning, and then finer and finer emery cloth to finish with a little polishing. The slit is no longer visible or very little: I’m happy.

Then I remove all the old tampons. I clean the clarinet a minimum . The customer didn’t want to pay too much, so I don’t do any heavy cleaning.

I change the defective corks then glue the new pads. The clarinet begins to come to life!

All I have to do is do the full tuning and try out the instrument.

The clarinet is left for a few years of playing !!!
