I was led to compose this work for solo harp, not only because of my attraction to an instrument so rich in sonic possibilities, but also thanks to my meeting with Constance Luzzati, whose playing fascinated me.
It was first of all certain visionary paintings by Turner that carried my inspiration: aren't the harp sounds evocative of light, color and space? But I wanted for these music pages a concrete title, which the painting could not provide me. I then thought of Baudelaire, and retained the fragment of a verse from Fleurs du Mal. A few words, "Of light and ablaze skies", accompanied me in the composition of this piece. No doubt they will also be able to guide listening.
In terms of sound, I worked a lot on the resonance, and I applied myself to using a palette of timbres as diverse as possible. In this composition, on a scintillating, moving and undulating background, characteristic gestures are inscribed, and are reproduced intermittently in a random order. As the play unfolds, they transform and create an ever-increasing agitation, which evolves towards the idea of "conflagration".
