In 1929, Perry Bechtel, a young guitarist, approached Martin to create a flattop guitar in the 000 shape but with a longer and narrower neck with a knuckle at the 14th fret.

The OM shape was very popular with fingerpickers and only available to order for decades, before finally becoming a standard model in the 1990s. Today, it is the second most copied and sold shape in the world. This magnificent OM of the standard range has a soundboard is in spruce with the binding herringbone, the back and the sides in Indian rosewood. The OM-28 is one of the most iconic folk guitars.
