Spring loaded reverb simulator designed after the legendary Fender 6G15 reverb, typical of surf guitars and other famous guitar sounds of the 60's.
The Dwell knob controls how hard the springs are hit by the guitar signal.
It was also essentially a tube preamp, so it colored the sound going into the amp. It all added up to a very distinctive reverb sound. A discrete preamp (which you can control via the volume knob) has therefore been added. An internal switch allows you to select the Trails mode so that the reverb decays slowly by deactivating the pedal.
