The specialist's opinion
We can no longer count the number of albums on which Michael Landau has played over the past forty years.
He is certainly the artist with the most recordings in history.
Emeritus studio guitarist in Los Angeles and artist rewarded by his peers, Landau is today a true icon of the electric guitar. His vibrant, dynamic and infinitely creative playing allowed him to cross eras and musical styles. We have indeed heard Mike play on the albums of Pink Floyd, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Michael Jackson, BB King, Rod Stewart, Mile Davis, Boz Scaggs, Tim McGraw, Bonnie Raitt and many others. Michael's steadfast companion, pillar, blank canvas and muse throughout his career has been a 1959 Stratocaster® nicknamed "Coma". Michael found this guitar in an LA store when he was 16. Her body had been repainted and her microphones replaced, which gave her the freedom to personalize the instrument over the course of her career so that she could follow the evolution of her style. The special Coma Red finish and the "Coma" drawn with an indelible marker make the singularity of this guitar which has been modified several times over the years, thus changing the pickups, electronic configuration, fittings and bridge. The version of the Coma recreated for the Fender Stories collection represents the guitar in its current state. It is equipped with custom ML Ultra Noiseless Strat pickups in the neck and center positions, and a custom Wide Range humbucker in the bridge position. It also features a vintage style six saddle Stratocaster bridge with a cold rolled steel block and tremolo, a neck made to the artist's specifications, Fender ClassicGear tuners, cavities for the Floyd Rose and the famous finish faded red satin on the body. The Michael Landau Coma Stratocaster clearly displays a rich history in the image of a major artist in perpetual evolution. It comes in a custom hard case with the "Coma" embroidered on it, along with a "Coma" sticker pack, a special strap and the Coma booklet written by Michael himself.
