Silence! We play!

Posted on: Thursday 11 November 2021

Your passion is the trumpet but your neighbor is not a music lover?
Do you dream of stringing eighth notes like Miles Davis or Dizzy Gillespie, but for now it’s the wrong notes that are waiting for you?
So for that, you decide to play, a lot, as soon as possible.
And yes, we have nothing for nothing and to get there, we have to work. And consequently, to make “noise”, to disturb the people around us.

Today, everyone is running out of time. We work, we take care of our family, we play sports, we go out with friends and the only time slots left are after 9:30 p.m., at work during the lunch break or in traffic jams. We are clearly not in the best moments to play without disturbing.

The trumpet is cool and it’s well designed!

Fortunately, the trumpet in addition to being cool, it is very well designed. The air enters through one hole, and comes out through another, only. One entry, one exit. It is therefore sufficient to control the output to limit the passage of air and therefore of sound.

Denis Wick and Yamaha: two types of mutes

For this, there are two brands that have developed two types of very effective mutes.

The first, Denis Wick , manufactures aluminum mutes , very light, very inexpensive, at CHF 49.-. It lets through a very low thread of sound and very little breath retention. The game is very natural and the neighbors delighted.

The second is of course Yamaha . They are everywhere and think of the neighbors AND the musician.
They created an electronic mute that not only mutes the sound, but transcribes it into headphones so that you have feedback on what you are playing. The sound is of course digital but of great quality. You even have the possibility to connect an audio source to play with an accompaniment.
It is very light (70g for the trumpet model), discreet (it does not protrude from the bell once mounted) and as long as you have a good headphone, the sound is really very good.
The complete kit is at CHF 240.-. The price of a good neighborly understanding.
